About us

Who are we at African Pathfinder?

African Pathfinder is an exclusive and privately owned company, based in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa. The company is run by an enthusiastic, dynamic team of women, all of whom are widely travelled and have vast knowledge of tourism in Africa. Our passion and speciality is tailoring unique holidays, ideally suited to each clients' needs.

Dionne Bunyard
Dionne has a great passion for the outdoors and adventure and her travel experience ranges from hiking trips, horse-safaris, skiing holidays, backpacking in Europe to working holidays on equestrian farms in Ireland. She has also done extensive business travel to many parts of the world including various countries throughout Africa, Dubai, Europe, UK, Australia and US. But southern Africa always was and always will be her home and it is this home-pride that has created African Pathfinder. There is no greater pleasure than showing off the many beautiful regions to clients.

Dionne’s favourite destination:
“So many to choose from, but if I had to pick one, it would be Sindabezi Island in Zambia. This destination is exactly what I love…. rustic luxury with the most unbelievable setting! The chalets are located on a small island in the middle of the Zambezi river, with no electricity, no telephones, TV’s, hair-dryers or internet – a true escape from modern life! There aren't even any windows or doors – just open chalets to the great river and the amazing birdlife. Not to forget the friendly staff and fabulous food. I could spend weeks there…”

Gaenor Francis
Older sister and business partner to Dionne, Gaenor is a fundi in the travel industry with over 14 years experience. Over and above the work, she has also lived and travelled in the UK, Europe, Asia, USA, Australia, Indian-Ocean islands and southern Africa. Her favourite destination though is South Africa and her passion for the region is what drives her to be creative in tailoring holidays for clients. Testament to her calm and patient character, Gaenor is also a part-time Iyengar Yoga teacher. Yoga has been part of the family throughout her life and has become an important and great love to her.

Blue Gum Country Estate - Stanford
Gaenor’s favourite destination:
Blue Gum Country Estate, located in Stanford about 2 hours from Cape Town. Why? “I just love the home-away-from-home appeal yet it is luxurious with the most delicious food, great wines and warm, friendly service. The setting is also unbeatable with the beautiful surrounding mountains and large open spaces with tranquil vistas over the estate…”

Lindsay von Bach
Lindsay is a true travel-bug and has experienced amazing trips from camping holidays throughout Botswana and Namibia, hiking in the Drakensberg, sailing with family for a year from South Africa to the UK via the Caribbean, to backpacking throughout Western Europe. Combined with her personal travels, she is also trained in hospitality, worked in a luxury guest house along the Garden Route as well as Front Office Manager at a private game lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve. From there she branched into the Event and Promotions industry but finally returned her travel feet to where they belong – by joining African Pathfinder in 2007. Her enthusiasm, professional manner and caring nature are a great asset to the team.

The Namib Dessert
Lindsay’s favourite destination:
“This has to be the Namib Desert. There is nothing quite so breathtaking as the absolute stillness and arid vista that greets your senses when rising above the Namib in a hot-air balloon at sunrise! It’s quite surreal with the sun’s rosy rays just starting to peak over the edge of the horizon, and the ancient red dunes stretching out for miles in undulating waves like the sea, before meeting the crystal clear blue sky. There might be a majestic lone Oryx standing watching you and not another living creature in sight – the modern world seems light years away!”
